Yinka Shonibare CBE's first solo exhibition in Japan, Flower Power, takes place as part of a special programme at Fukuoka Art Museum, which relaunches the museum after a recent renovation.
Focussing on the central theme of the flower, the exhibition includes important historic works by Shonibare. Often used to celebrate beauty, life and love, flowers are complex symbols that can reflect national, collective, and ideological identity, as well as personal relationships. In this exhibition, the multiple resonances of the flower become a way of exploring Shonibare's early work.
