Interior Infinite

The Polygon Gallery, Vancouver, Canada

25 June – 5 September 2021

Interior Infinite explores the use of both costume and masquerade in contemporary art as methods for revealing, rather than concealing, identities. Across the works on display in the show, disguise functions as an unmasking, as artists construct their own images through adornment in order to visually represent embodied experience, memory and understanding.

Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball), 2004, Yinka Shonibare’s CBE’s first film, is on view alongside works by internationally renowned artists spanning mediums including photography, video, performance, and sculpture. Featured artists include: Lacie Burning, Claude Cahun, Nick Cave, Charles Campbell, Dana Claxton, Martine Gutierrez, Kris Lemsalu, Ursula Mayer, Meryl McMaster, Zanele Muholi, Aïda Muluneh, Zak Ové, Skeena Reece, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Sin Wai Kin, Carrie Mae Weems, Zadie Xa.
