Wrocław Contemporary Museum presents Yinka Shonibare MBE: Selected Works, the artist's first solo exhibition in Poland. The show is centred around Shonibare's Fake Death Pictures, a photographic series from 2011, where the artist depicts different scenarios involving Lord Nelson's death. All photographs re-enact popular death scenes from paintings by famous artists including Leonardo Alenzo y Nieto, Édouardo Manet, Henry Wallis, Bartolomé Carducho and François – Guillaume Ménageot, where instead of the main protagonist Shonibare places Lord Nelson. In turn, Addio del Passato, 2011, a touching video work in which an opera singer – Frances Nisbet, dressed up as Lord Nelson’ wife, performs La Traviata, a 19th century opera by Giuseppe Verdi.
