The free public art exhibition, Frieze Sculpture, is now open in London. The presentation features 21 leading international artists whose works are situated throughout Regent’s Park’s historic English Gardens.
Material (SG) IV by Yinka Shonibare CBE captures the idea of harnessing wind and freezing it in a moment. Imbued with a sense of dynamism, the sculpture resembles a vast sheet of fabric, billowing in the breeze. Adorned in hand-painted batik, the work serves as powerful metaphor for the movement of people and global interconnectivity over time. It is a commanding alternative to conventional monuments of personal power, instead exploring the universal experience of historical change.
