Yinka Shonibare CBE has created a classroom for Stockholm School of Economics, the room contains a hand-painted mural and a small library with hardback books covered in Yinka Shonibare CBE’s signature material, Dutch wax batik fabric.
This is SSE´s fourth art classroom and allows for students and researchers to further explore globalisation, cultural identity, the implications of colonialism and the economic and political relationship between Africa and Europe.
SSE have also launched The Yinka Shonibare Thesis Scholarship in cooperation with Art Initiative and Misum, Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets. The scholarship gives SSE students the opportunity to do a field study on site in Nigeria while staying at one of Shonibare’s Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation’s residency spaces.
