The latest episode of Biennial Bytes, the official podcast of Sharjah Biennial 15 (SB15): Thinking Historically in the Present features Yinka Shonibare CBE in conversation with SB15 curator Hoor Al Qasimi.
Shonibare's most recent body of work, Decolonised Structures is currently on view at the Old Al Diwan Al Amiri. This series recreates seven public statues of British imperialists that currently shape the cityscape and very fabric of London. The artist's figures are stripped of the authority of bronze and marble and instead shrouded in the colonial legacy of Dutch wax patterns.
